PURPOSE

This chapter is intended to summarize some of the thoughts and concepts regarding the National Capital elements of the city, as distinct from the residential and commercial elements, that form the majority of the development in Dodoma. The significant elements contributing to the Capital had to be structured in such a way as to symbolize the essence of Tanzania both to its own people and to the outside world. The relationships between these elements are shown on the National Capital Structure Plan, which includes the major government and institutional buildings along with the important open spaces of the Capital. It includes the new A and B centres of the Capital, as well as the old city centre.

The symbolic representation of Tanzania's ideals is the essence of this chapter.
